Another comment on Dad

I watched the video today of how Dad was hurt. It is very damning to the one who did it. I signed papers today allowing it to be used by the Administration. It cannot be made public. That would be a violation of the HPPA and privacy laws. I can revoke that permission in writing any time I choose.

On another note, we did not leave on time. Rachael is ready. Her father is not! Hopefully soon.

Dad

A lot has happened since my last blog.
An Administrative investigation is nearly finished. I wouldn't want to be the guilty. The criminal investigation is ongoing. It will be nastier.
Dad's arm is getting better. He should begin therapy next week sometime. His lungs are improving as well. He is eating a pureed diet. Looks like...well, it could be better, but they try. His behavior is better as well. They said he was singing to some oldies on the radio Sunday. Knew the words too.
The Social Worker is trying to find Dad a SNF...Skilled Nursing Facility.
There is a video of Dad being assulted without his provocation. That is just arrogant and sadistic.
We are leaving to take Rachael back to school tomorrow. I hope she is ready to leave on time...noon!
I have a few things to do in the am before we leave, but shouldn't take long.

My Parents

Wow, where do I begin? Two weeks ago tomorrow, I took mom to get cataract surgery. While they were prepping her, she had a heart attack. I sat and watched as the nurses were all working with her. It was a mild one with minimal damage, but still very scarey. I stayed with her most of the daytime that she was in the hospital. Dad was in daycare, so that really helped.
Until Saturday when he got hostile toward the staff there. Mike was picking up Dad and staying with him until I got home. Then we stayed the night with him while Mom was in the hospital.
Dad has severe dementia. He was very confused when Mom didn't come home nights. She was finally released on Sunday. We took her home and stayed with them one more night to be sure they would be ok. The next day, Monday, Dad went to daycare again.
Then Tuesday morning he became violent again. At this point he has hurt 4 staff members by pushing, hitting or scratching them. My son, Ben, and I took Dad to the hospital in the ER.
They finally, after 13 hours, admitted him. He is still there.
Yesterday we had a conference with his medical team. Then we were allowed to see him outside regular visiting hours. I went to hold his hand but he became extremely protective of it. We mentioned it to the team as they were still there. They did seem concerned, but not exceptionally so. They took xrays and found his humerous bone, upper arm, was broken. An Orthopedic doctor is to check him today to see if surgery is required.
He was to go home tomorrow, but now that is changed.
This has been quite an experience and very stressful!

Vacation Bible School

We had VBS this last week. We also kept our grandsons, ages 4 months and 3 years. What a week! Jeni had surgery on Monday and was unable to handle the boys for several days. So, Mawmaw and Pop took them in. Wednesday Aunt Rachael took them home and stayed to help there.
VBS theme was Passport to the Promised Land. It went like a well-oiled machine! It was our first VBS at this church. It was awesome. Everyone did their part. There were extra folks to fill-in where needed. One small boy gave his life to Christ. AWESOME!
Now we have today off and doing only what we want.
We also celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary last Thursday during VBS.
I made a new bracelet. Sodalite and Swarovski crystals. Nice looking. Great to wear with jeans. Of course that is what I made it for...jeans.
Have a show coming up in July so I need to get busy and make more jewelry.
Picked up some more Swarovski crystals today. 2 mm rounds in crystal-AB. 1 gross is less than a teaspoon!

Another busy month!

I have made more jewelry. Check out the new pieces in my ArtFire shop! I also have some different pieces in my Etsy shop.
I have been fighting with my health insurance company for 3 full weeks. It has been very frustrating. They cancelled us for "non-payment". I told them it was there. They couldn't find it. Of course it is up to me to prove I am right. I had to make sure the payment had arrived to them by the 24th of the month. So....I went to my bank account. There it showed the payment was complete and taken from my account.
I photo copied the front and back of the check like I was told and faxed it to the insurance company. The back of the check shows that it was in the hands of the insurance co. on or before the 23rd of the month. I also sent a note making it clear that I wanted my insurance reinstated immediately. I really needed my meds.
They said it would take 24-48 hours for it all to happen. I went to the pharmacy 72 hours later, wanted to be sure and allow extra time. No insurance. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I called again. "No, we haven't seen a fax". I told them it was sent and I had confirmation it went thru.
For 2 and a half weeks we went thru this on a daily basis. What a headache! They were basically calling me a liar, saying not only was a payment not received, nor was a fax. I tried to talk to a supervisor. I left 3 voice mails for her. Her voice mail says she will return the call as soon as possible. Well, it is over 3 weeks later and still no return call. Surprise, surprise.
After 2 weeks of telephone conversations that ended in nothing being accomplished, I was told to send the fax again. I did. Along with a copy of the original fax and confirmation sheet and a copy of my phone log with them.
I called the next day. "no, there is no fax". Talk about frustration! I called again the next day. Yes, we see the fax. Hurray! Well, it will take 24-48 hours, again, to fix it. Right. It took a few more calls and 5 more days. Finally got our prescriptions. I called my doctor for an appointment because I was experiencing a lot of edema in my feet and ankles.
Well, guess what! The clinic said the insurance wasn't in effect. Good grief! I called them right there in the office. What a mess! She said it was hung up in channels, but I was covered. I had her tell the clinic. The clinic was very good about it all and very understanding. Apparently this insurance company does this kind of thing a lot.
In the end, I am filing a complaint to the Insurance Commission and the Health Authority. No one should be treated this way. I was right, proved and still had to prove it again, because their office was inept.

It's been too long!

I can't believe it has been almost a month since my last post. A lot has happened.
I made a new necklace. I have kept the grandkids overnight. I have had 2 or 3 doctors appointments. Mother's Day.....got some neat gifts too! Anniversary Sunday at church.
New members in church. Fellowship Week at BBC. Bringing Rachael home from BBC. Keeping the granddaughters again. A wedding rehearsal and wedding at the church. SNO every Friday night. Those senior citizens sure keep late hours. A Mother-Daughter banquet. Guest speakers at church!
Tomorrow Jesse has a talent show at school. I am going to try to go. Mike also has a nutrition appointment for his diabetis. I had wanted to go to that, but Jesse is more important. Then Collin is staying the night while Nico has a MRI or CT on Wed. am.
Finally, sometime this week I have got to find some Art or Craft shows to do. Need the money honey!

About me

The following is a list of diagnosis and why I am on disability. I debated for 6 months whether or not to file. I finally decided that if God wants me to have it, I will be approved. If He doesn't want me to be on disability, it would be denied. However, if I didn't apply, I couldn't have a chance to be approved.

After 4 months I was approved. No denial. No doctor visit. Pay was made retroactive. I should receive my first monthly check next week.

I am excited this has happened and a little sad too. I will keep doing whatever I can physically. I have had to give up a lot already and don't want to give up any more!

I can't bend without pain, can't go outside without coverup, must wear a headcovering (I am mostly bald), I must sit to hold my grandkids. I can't stand or walk more than 20 minutes without pain. After sitting a while my feet and ankles swell till they hurt.
I am anxiously awaiting State Fair time. Mom and I will rent hoverounds and go to the fair! We had a blast last year. For 5 hours!

Alopecia, Lupus, Asthma, Restrictive Lung disease, Rosacea, Rhumatoid Arthritis, Osteo Arthritis, Sleep Apnea, Runner's Knee, Reynaulds, High BP, Chronic Sinusitis, GERD, Degernerative Disk, Bulging Disks, Torn Disk, bone spurs on spine and feet. Oh, a benign tumor in my right lung.

I take about 8 pills in the am, 5 at nite, infusion once a month, and a few meds in between as needed. I have had a Port put in to make the infusions and blood tests easier as I have very small veins.

I got a new "cranial prosthesis" with my disability money. The wig takes a little getting used to for me, but I like it.

Busy Week

This has been a very busy week. It will be all over tomorrow evening. Sunday night is the beginning of our weekend. Monday night is the end of it.
The week started off ok with a trip to the YMCA for aquatics, but went downhill after that.
Wednesday a friend called on her way home from work stuttering like crazy. I took her to the hospital after church, she wouldn't go any earlier.
Then, because of that I didn't finish my taxes on time. Good thing we are getting a refund. Oklahoma's taxes aren't due until next month due to all the wildfires last week.
Well, I finished taxes on Thursday. But only after I had to hustle and get the house cleaned. The landlord wanted to show it all of to his sons in from NY. Oh, my aching back!
Friday we had a lady in our church get a diskogram (?). It is a very painful test in the disks of her back. It turned out not as bad as expected. Then it was SNO night. Those seniors keep us out really late! We had fun with grilled cheese sandwiches and games. We usually don't get home until 11 pm. Not bad for a bunch of old folks. But I had spent 2 days up at the hospital already.
Well, it is now Saturday night. We had a pizza party and played catch phrase with the young adults tonight. The Home Builders class. Had a lot of fun. Got to see both my boys and 3 of my grandkids.
I am doing laundry, blogging, practicing for a solo tomorrow, and wishing I was in bed asleep!

Peridot Bracelet..part 2

I made a simple pair of earrings to go along with the bracelet below. Ginny loved them both. She is giving this set to her daughter. She is also requesting more jewelry made for her in OU colors...crimsom and cream. That ought to be fun! I can do a custom order for you too!

Ronnie Warren Concert

This was an awesome concert! Ronnie Warren played 7 different instruments and sang. Not all at once of course. I have a video of him playing the saw, but it is turned sideways and I can't figure out how to make it right. Maybe Ben will show me. Here is Ronnie Warren on the harmonica.

Of course he plays the violin and guitarAnd a melodica...and keyboard...and tin flute. Who knows what else he can play or will learn to play. If you get a chance to hear him in concert GO. His whole family are musicians.

Elizabeth Louise Murray

Mrs. Murray's funeral was a reminder of how special she was. It was also a reunion of sorts. Pastors and friends from all over came to pay their respects to the Murrays. Seeing the children all grown up! My goodness. It has only been a couple of months or even a couple of years since seeing some. But 17 years since seeing others!

Did you know kids change an awful lot in 17 years!

I know she will be greatly missed. At the same time, she is with her Savior, son, parents, and many friends.

Elizabeth Louise Murray, we will miss you my friend!

Alopecia Aeriota

Alopecia is simply baldness. The hairroot goes dormant and hair falls out. Alopecia Aerota is "areas of baldness", Alopecia Totallis "is no hair on the head...at all", Alopecia Universal is no hair anywhere on the body.

I have Alopecia Aerota. I have been completely bald twice (on my head). Right now I have a wide "mohawk" with bald spots. I can get my hair up in 2 pin curls! One on top and one in back. That's how my wig stays on.

If the hair cannot grow back with pigment, it may try without pigment (pure white). I have a few strands of the pure white hair.

I wear a wig to church, hats or scarves everywhere else. I let it all go at home. My scalp is very sensitive to the lace and other materials in the wig. Plus, even though it is a medical wig (airy) it does get hot.
But I don't have to worry about the rain. I just take the wig off, shake it out, and put it back on. Or just tuck it into my purse to stay dry!

Alopecia is not painful but can be emotional. It can be treated with prednisone injections into the scalp. These help the regrowth of hair for a while. But steroids have a lot of bad side effects and for me it just isn't worth it anymore.
I began the injections when I was 12. So long as I continued with them, my hair grew back. But, the steroids over the years have caused weight gain and emotional issues. I have had steroids for lung problems and joint problems as well. So, for the last 2 years I have avoided all steroids, pills, shots, inhalers... I am going to try to go 5 years without steroids of any kind. We will see how it goes!

Earthquake!

We had 3 earthquakes yesterday. The epicenter was 3 blocks from the church. I felt the first two, but not the third. I think the dog did though. He was begging to come in the house.

They weren't strong nor unusual. We had one 9 days earlier too that was 3.4. These were 2.7, 2.5, and 2.2. The unusual thing is to have so many in 3 hours time! The fault is 3 miles below ground.

I doubt anything exciting will happen today. Unless I get to go fishing!

This is a fun video my son Ben put together. The story is true. If you want additional details just ask. Enjoy!

John 3:16 Bracelet

My favorite scripture of all time is John 3:16. I made this design to show off that verse. This is a charm bracelet with each charm representing part of the verse. The rest of the bracelet is made with firepolished Czech glass beads. Most of the charms are made of pewter. A couple of charms are Sterling Silver.
I was excited when I found the globe charms. I was able to buy several in different colors. I specifically decided against a pink globe. I just think it would look quite right if you know what I mean.

I have made this design in several color variations.

Gems and Pearls

I don't have much to say today. Except, I want to buys more beads! It really is an addiction. Those of you who bead know that. I have some semi-precious gems and pearls coming, but I want them now. Not really to make anything yet, but to hold in my hand and feel their beauty.
I have some black diamonds at home just waiting to be worked with.
I kept making excuses that the pearls I wanted to use with them weren't in. Well, the pearls are in, but I like the gems just by themselves!
Well, I will just have to be patient to wait on my package. Then I will have to get busy making jewelry. Then sell it!

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

This is such a pretty necklace. The peridot and purple Swarovski crystals accent the colors of the lampwork beads. The pearls give it a delicate touch. I love working with pearls. The lobster claw clasp is Sterling silver.

Turquoise creations

This is the new bracelet I made with the turquoise nuggets I bought from Magpie Gemstones. I love the blues and greens mixed together. It is so easy to wear. I added a magnetic clasp so I could wear it a little snugger than my other bracelets. This is a close up shot of the matching necklace. I used a magnetic clasp on it as well, just not the fold over kind. I put a few Swarovski crystals in the mix for a little sparkle.

New Online Shop!

Ok, after hearing several others talk about Art Fire I decide to try it. So, I now have a new shop on Art Fire. http://www.artfire.com/modules.php?name=search&sterm=fancyfashions&cb1=1&cb2=2&cb3=3 Check it out and see what you think. It is currently going to carry the same as my Etsy shop. www.fancyfashions.etsy.com
Next week I will try to add more items to both shops.
Again, Mike had to help wash my hair today. Tomorrow I finally get to shower. Can't wait! I think I will stand in it for at least an hour!

Friday the 13th

Today is the day before Valentine's, Friday the 13th. I have had a very busy 2 weeks. Last week a new grandson! Yipee! and what a cutie he is!
This week we spent Monday and Tuesday in a cabin at Keystone Lake in Oklahoma. It was beautiful out! What a wonderful time away. On the way home we encountered a major storm. Tornados were a comin'. We pushed the speed limit a bit to make it home. We did make it before the tornado crossed the path we had just taken.
God sure is merciful!
Wednesday I spent the day in the hospital with my mom. She had a heart cath done. All was well and again we praise God. Boy was I tired. But I did manage to go to church that nite.
Thursday I spent the day in another hospital. This time for me. I had an IV port put in. They decided to put me to sleep because of my breathing issues. That was fine by me. It did take longer in recovery tho. Then they tell me I can't go to the pool or take a tub bath for 3 (THREE) weeks. Not only that, I can't even shower for 72 hours!!! What's a girl to do?
Today, I had to have Mike help me shampoo my hair in the kitchen sink. I think he enjoyed using the sprayer a bit too much! Later he gets to help me "sponge bathe" to get all the betadine off.
Well, it is now Friday and I have a LOT of work to catch up on. In the mean time 2 packages of beads came in. I want to play, but must work. Tomorrow I will finish what I can't get done today.
Praise God anyway!

Pearls, Pearls, Pearls

My pearls came in today! Yipee! They are so pretty. I have coins in 2 sizes and rounds in sizes.
Yesterday I also ordered some turquoise from Szarka @ Magpie Gemstones. I can't wait til it arrives too. I have new beads coming from India and supplies from FMG.
Well, we will see what I create with them all. Maybe I will just play with all the gems and pearls for a while.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr

Baby, it's cold outside! Finally the ice is melting and things are warming up. The good part of it all is the ground got some good moisture.
We slid around on the ice a few times. Mike really enjoys that! But we rented some movies, made some soups and enjoyed the nights inside, all warm and snuggly!
Some of the good movies we watched were
Fireproof, Saving God, Lobster Tale, and Waterhorse.

New Jewelry

The Blue John 3:16 bracelet is one of my favorites. I have made it in several colors and different beads. I think I will use pearls and Swarovski crystals on the next one.

I really like Bronzite. This bracelet design has sold twice and I have a third ready to be sold.

This set is with Keishi pearls and Green Adventurine. I have matching earrings as well. This is a new set in my Etsy shop.

Let me know what you think!

Grandbabies

Wow, warmer weather at last! I know we need the cold, but....
I am ready to start creating again. I am going to take apart some of the old pieces from last year and remake them. I am just waiting on a few things to come in first.
Jeni is doing good this week. Keeping little Nico in his "warming oven". He isn't due for a while yet and she is on meds and bedrest to slow the contractions.
Mr. Collin was over to spend the night again Thursday. He sure is fun. He has an infectious giggle. We had Izzie Thursday morning. When she went home with mommy and daddy, she took her first 4 steps! Now, why couldn't she do that at Gramma's?

Grandbabies! Jewelry!!

There is nothing in this world better than loving on my grandbabies! Jeni went to the hospital this week in pre-term labor. That meant Gramma and Papa got to keep Collin overnight. He has such an infectious giggle! Doc was able to give Jeni meds to stop the contractions and sent her home. Little Nico needs to stay in the "oven" a bit longer.
Last week we had Collin on Thursday, then Jesse, Kaylee and Izzie on Friday. Course Izzy didn't stay all night.
Jesse and Kaylee enjoy making their own jewelry at Gramma's. I keep a box of beads and stretch cord just for them. I think this summer we will work with the "real" stuff. They sure enjoy it.
I have some chalcedony and pearls coming. I can't wait to get them. I am trying to decide on doing a Valentine's show. It would be at the business mall again. If the pearls come in time, then I think I can do it.
I just love working with the pearls. All I need is a few hundred dollars to buy lots of pearls and accessory beads. Oh yea, I have a sterling silver order coming too. Although I don't think it will be in time.
