Stress in the Ministry

We went to a Preachers' meeting today. The topic was stress in the ministry.  The were 2 speakers. The first was a physician speaking in regards to the physical results of stress. He mentioned is was much the same as that for physicians as well.
To lower our stress level we must eat healthy, exercise 3x per week, drink plenty of water and get appropriate rest.
The second was a doctor/counselor.  He said we need a hobby to help relieve stress.  One that is not related to our ministry.  His is riding a motorcycle.  Mine is making jewelry.  My hubby's is golfing.
He also mentioned that anyone of 6 or more daily meds, needs to have those medications examined to determine if they interfere with each other or to see what their interactions are.  I take 14 different meds daily.
Overall it was an interesting meeting.  One speaker was not speaker material and was difficult to listen to. However he was pretty good one on one.
Now, I need to get back to my hobby so I can de-stress!

Stress is definitely a killer. The bible warns about stress and worry too.

Yep, you pastors definitely need to look after yourselves. God needs you healthy in body and mind.

Thanks for sharing -- We neglect that our hobby/business can be healthy for us. I know sometimes I think I should be taking care of more important family needs. Good point!

Good tips, interesting to hear. I certainly need de-stressing right now. I like the idea of having hobbies different to your ministry. I had to think what mine are but I think gardening and knitting/crochet are. I also love to listen to podcasts for fun. Blessings Niki x

This is a good reminder for me, too! Sometimes I can let the stress of my hobby overwhelm me and I put my health and chores aside, when those should be my first priority. Thanks for the encouragement :)

uh oh, what happens when your hobby of crafting becomes your job, then there is no stress relief left! that is my problem right now. I need to work on that

We need to take care of our pastors and ministers and encourage them to take care of themselves! Thanks for the reminder that full time ministry is a very stressful job!

My hobby sometimes becomes my stress too. Then what? Better get out the workout video I guess.

This is so good to be reminded of. I'm failing on a few of those!
Thanks for the post:)

Hobbies are wonderful for de-stressing. My Dad was a Pastor and he loved to fly fish. That was his way of relaxing.
